One of the most interesting aspects of what we do comes in the mode of exploration, whether it be technique or theory or both. It is true that a sound education will certainly enable the student to practise technique to an extreme of proficiency, however technique is not the only fertile area to focus on. With modern technology and a clean slate more and more are turning to explore theory with plenty of uncharted space where it is enough simply to be interesting. Additionally a strong theoretical premise makes the perfect foundation for exploration to become established as a day to day activity.
If you are a musician, perhaps with some modern appeal and modern tools, the first thing you may have to learn is that it is highly inadvisable to mix major and minor chords together unless your theory is flawless. All musical chords have their own intrinsic beauty, so keep them pure. Harmony is the musician’s best friend.
Whatever musical instrument you play or wish to play, get it connected. There are plenty of musical instruments that can only play one note at a time, however there is nothing wrong with writing your accompaniment previously and performing at the limit of your ability. There really are unfathomable regions for valid exploration of music and music theory. Why turn it into a phone call. If you really want to write a song, make it the climax of a whole book’s worth of reading. One song per book.
